FAQ's
1.
HOW DO Tree Staple STABILIZERS WORK?
Tree Staple stabilizers hold a tree's root ball firmly in-place.
The longest prong, (see diagram), provides vertical support and serves
as an anchor below the root ball. This minimizes shifting in the soil.
The cross member stretches across a portion of the root ball, applying
downward pressure. This allows proper movement of the tree in the wind.
The shortest prong restricts twisting, further reducing ball movement
and firmly locking the root ball in-place.
2. HOW
MANY STABILIZERS DO I USE?
Two are all you need for most plantings. Occasionally, conditions such
as loose or sandy soil, extreme winds, or tree size may require a third
stabilizer. Instructions for installation are included in each box.
3. WHAT
SIZED STABILIZERS SHOULD BE USED?
The best holding power results when Tree Staple stabilizers extend a minimum
of 12" below the depth of the root ball. We recommend that in loose
or sandy soil conditions, or in extreme wind conditions, that you consider
increasing size or adding a third stabilizer. Please call our resident
landscape experts for more information.
4. HOW
LONG DOES IT TAKE TO INSTALL Tree Staple LANDSCAPE PRODUCTS?
It takes 1 person approximately 1 minute to install 2 Tree Staple stabilizers.
5. DO
I NEED ANY SPECIAL TOOLS?
No. All you need is a sledge hammer. No other tools are required. Tree
Staple, Inc. highly recommends the use of hand and eye protection.
6. ARE
Tree Staple LANDSCAPE PRODUCTS PROTECTED BY PATENTS?
Yes, US PATENT NOS. 6,065,243, 6,141,903 and 6,516,561 are in effect with
other Patents Pending.
7. WHAT
ARE Tree Staple STABILIZERS MADE OF?
Uncoated, plain carbon steel.
8. WILL
Tree Staple STABILIZERS DAMAGE THE ROOTS?
No. In six years of controlled use, there has been no indication of damage
caused from the spike or cross member entering the root ball. Any piercing
will, at worst, cause the roots to grow around the impediment.
9. DO
I STILL NEED TO USE GUY WIRES IN AREAS WITH HIGH WINDS?
A tree that has been properly planted with Tree Staple stabilizers will
hold as well as or better than other methods. Guy wire installations introduce
an unnatural stress at the point where they attach to the tree. Often,
strong winds will break the tree at this point. With the Tree Staple
system, this does not happen.
10. IS
BELOW-GRADE STABILIZING ACTUALLY GOOD FOR TREES?
Tree Staple below-grade stabilizers eliminate potential girdling,
damage to the bark and the abnormal stress normally created by traditional,
guy wire methods. This allows the tree to move in the wind, the way nature
intended. According to Purdue University, "The result is a better balance
between canopy size, trunk caliper, and the root system."
11. DO
YOU HAVE TO ADJUST OR REMOVE Tree Staple STABILIZERS?
Tree Staple landscape products eliminate the need for subsequent maintenance
or retrieval, saving the labor and disposal costs associated with those
activities.
12. ARE
Tree Staple STABILIZERS REUSABLE?
Yes. However, they are designed to be left behind. The labor involved
to retrieve the devices once installed may far exceed the cost of new
products. And of course, you would have to find them first
13. ARE
Tree Staple STABILIZERS MORE EFFECTIVE IN ROCKY SOIL?
Tree Staple landscape products offer the best opportunity for working
through adverse soil conditions. The steel construction stands up to tough
physical conditions. The sharp, narrow entry is angled to easily penetrate
hard soils and is even effective in shale. The angled cuts of the prongs
are designed to deflect off rocks in such a way as to give the Tree Staple
the best chance of remaining effective.
14. WILL
TREE STAPLE PRODUCTS WORK WITH PALM TREES?
Yes. They have been successfully used in Florida and Louisiana. See How
to install.
15. CAN
Tree Staple STABILIZERS BE USED ON BOX OR CONTAINER STOCK?
Yes. Contact us and speak with one of our in-house
landscape experts to learn more. See How to
install.
